I already had Vista installed, but got fed up with it’s crappiness. I couldn’t take the annoyances of not being able to get work done and it just ran slow as hell on a Dell 755. So I installed Windows XP on a 2nd partition I created. After doing so I realized I could no longer boot to Vista, but the Vista partition was still recognized and usable. What to do?

Well for awhile it didn’t bother me too much, but now I want to see what files I have under Vista, what programs are installed, and I want to clean things up. A simple search on the web found me this site with directions for dual booting Vista and XP when Vista is already installed.

So I followed them and got to the point where Vista Bootloader is re-enabled. This causes a problem for me and my setup. I would attempt to login and Vista would tell it has lost the trust between the workstation and Domain.

So after a little more searching I come across this site in which a user recommends to unplug the network cable while attempting to login. This worked, I just had to use an older password that was cached for my domain account. Once in I immediately created a local admin account just in case this happens again! I also removed the machine from our Active Directory (AD) Domain.

I then restarted, logged in again and rejoined to the domain. Once rebooted again I continued on with the directions and installed EasyBCD. One little oddity there, EasyBCD would not let me choose the XP partition, it just kept it with the C: drive even though XP is on the E: drive. This seemed odd as Vista is the C: drive. But I didn’t bother and just left it.

Now I can’t login to XP with an AD account. I am working on correcting this and will post an update when I get there.

If you have the urge to go to McDonalds and get an Ice Coffee, I have a better idea for ya. Give your good friend $2.15 and let him punch you in the face. Then you can say, “Wow that punch in the face hurt, but was way better than the McDonalds Iced Coffee!”

Needless to say I attempted one of those iced coffees this morning and it was disgusting. The McDonalds employee grabs a cup fills it up with ice, then about 1/4 of the way with creamer (bleghhh!) and possibly sugar (I think so but missed it), then adds flavor syrup (who the hell knows what’s in that), and then the iced coffee from a separate container. How long the coffee sits and congeals in that container I have no idea, nor do I want to know?

What happened to just a cup of ice with Coffee added to it?

I was walking back with my coworkers and just threw the thing out in a dumpster. They both looked at me and I said, “Well at least a multi-billion dollar corporation got $2.15 from me…” While DOF said, “I could of told you it was terrible.” Thanks! Great timing

I get the sense that McDonalds thinks they can add sugar to anything and make it taste good. Boy could that be farther from reality. The thing was disgusting and I’m sucking on TicTacs trying to get the taste out of my mouth.

I’ll start things off with my 2 cents… Blogging to me is an excellent form of communication. I can post something I’m interested about, users can discuss their feelings on the issue, and as the author, I can see what other people think about the same issues that interest me.

My motives tend to be altruistic in the sense that I don’t think all my ideas are 100% and the best way to formulate an understanding of something is to get collective input. At least this is how I feel. So even if my post comes off as THIS IS THE WAY AND THERE IS NO OTHER, that is not really my intent.

Sometimes the line bleeds between altruistic and narcissistic and to me that seems to be a natural consequence of any journaling by the author. In other words, a journal is the thoughts of the author, so how can it not be a little narcissistic?

That aside, I try to keep my topics altruistic in nature, in the sense that I like posting on topics that helps others in some way. If I can make someone else think or learn something, that is wonderful. If I can help someone, that is even better. As a teacher I loved watching light bulbs turn on, partly the reason I enjoyed my stint at teaching.

How about you? Why do you blog? If you don’t blog, what attracts you to reading them? What kind of person blogs? Is blogging narcissistic, altruistic, both, or is there a fine line between them?

I’ve written about this topic before but I wish to mention again after reading this post on one of Greta Christina’s blogs.

The usual answers are practical ones. And I’ll certainly second them. Marriage is recognized around the country and around the world, and all its practical and legal rights and responsibilities get carried with you everywhere you go . . . in a way that is most emphatically not true for civil unions and domestic partnerships. Besides, it’s a well- established principle that “separate but equal” is inherently not equal. The very act of saying, “No, you can’t have this thing that everyone else can have, but you can have that other thing we created just for you that’s almost exactly like it — isn’t that special?” It’s the creation of second-class status, pretty much by definition.

It’s true. At the base of every argument against gay marriage is the creation of a second class citizen. Rather than acceptance we have mere avoidance of the issue. Rather than learn about the feelings and get to understand someone that’s gay, we shun them into a world with separate but equal status.

But I want to talk about something else today. I don’t want to talk about the legal and practical benefits of marriage. I don’t want to talk about hospital visitation rights, child custody rights, inheritance rights, tax benefits, all that good stuff. That’s all important, but it’s also well-covered ground.

I want to talk about something more intangible. I want to talk about why we’re getting married . . . apart from all that.

Those are some damn good reasons mentioned previously though…

When we get married in June, the State of California will officially recognize that our relationship has the same weight as our parents’ did, and their parents’, and theirs. It will officially drop this “separate but equal” bullshit. It will officially stop seeing us as kids at the little table, poor relatives who should be content with leavings and scraps, second-class citizens. It will officially see us as actual, complete, honest- to- gosh citizens.

At the heart of it all it’s about treating other human beings as, well, human beings. Despite all the BS that is floating around and despite what you may have heard, gay people are people too. And beyond everything they just want to be treated that way.

This brings to mind the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I heard that message at a young age and it had a surprisingly strong effect on me. Strong enough to where I always tried to look at other people as equal and judged them solely on their character.

Race, religion, skin color, class status, etc they never made a difference to me and still don’t today. I just wish more people could see things in a similar fashion as I do. Gay marriage is just another step towards creating a society where people are truly free.
