Step Two Three… Step Two Three…

Went dancing with my wife tonight and I had a surprising good time. I learned a little cha cha, swing, and a few other things. Basically the idea is to find the beat of the music within you and just learn some simple steps. Then gradually build up.

The teacher broke things down for us barney style by just having us all step side to side in sync. Basically just what you do when you walk. Then we added music and did it to a beat, then we learned some steps.

The message to take away was that music is in all of us you just need to listen and make things simple first. Then build up to the harder stuff. Hopefully I will have more to report next week.

God’s Song

Reader Ted introduced me to Randy Newman and I really enjoy what I’ve heard so far. Not only are the lyrics insightful, witty, and well thought, but the music is well produced. The piano, and sometimes instrumentals, behind the lyrics are themselves enough to listen to without any lyrics.

Somebody else apparently likes Randy too as the video below was created a fan using the song “God’s Song”. enjoy!

Late Night Music: No Woman no Cry

I’m not sure about the no cry part as this kid is at least twice as young as me about 1000 times better at the guitar. I love the most recent comment on the video:

Bob Marley was reincarnated as a little asian boy. Believe it.

Late Night Music: Livin on a Prayer

This version is much better than the original and is some damn impressive guitar playing. But then again I’m not that great myself…

Dispatch Zimbabwe DVD now for Sale

I can’t believe I spaced on this! A few days ago the DVD for the Dispatch Zimbabwe concert went on sale. If you don’t know, Dispatch is the greatest band ever ;P . Anyways, I will have more about Dispatch below the fold.

If you want to find out more about the DVD, or order it, click here.

The DVD contains over two hours of concert footage, special outtakes and interviews, and “Tree With No Name”, a beautiful documentary covering the situation in Zimbabwe.

The pre-order is for a special edition DVD. If you don’t want to pay the money, or just want to wait for the regular DVD, it will be cheaper and will be released mid January.

Now about the best band in the world (more…)

What was that About Measure Twice…

My Fiance and I are making a table to go behind our bed. We don’t have a headboard for our bed, and this wasn’t a problem when the bed was against a wall in the corner, where one wall covers the back of the bed, and the other wall covers one of the long sides of the bed.

Well we did some rearranging a few weeks ago and moved the bed so the back of it rests in a corner. Meaning there is no back to the bed. For how our room is set up this works nicely, but there is a lot of room for stuff to fall behind the back of the bed now. So to remedy this, my Fiance had the brilliant idea to build a table to put back there. This way we could have a table behind us to set things on (which we both very much like) and we could build the table up a bit to act as a headboard.

Well we did some measurements and found the best height from the ground would be 3 feet for the headboard. To make this thing sturdy, my plan was to build a corner table (essentially two Right Triangle boards separated with 3 legs) and then slap on the headboard. Well if the headboard is 3 feet in height than the legs needs to be 3 feet in height also, right? Wrong!

Go Back Inside You’re Scaring the Children

It’s now official, Elton John has joined the ranks of Ted Stevens

“Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet.

“Let’s get out in the streets and march and protest instead of sitting at home and blogging.

I was talking with my co-worker and we were laughing hysterically about the whole article. The premise is just too absurd…

The internet has stopped people from going out and being with each other, creating stuff.

The whole thing reminded us of that old grandpa everyone has in their family that makes those ridiculous statements and everyone just kinda looks away and says okay, okay, just calm down. Go back inside now.

But here’s what makes Elton a pompous ass:

The 60th birthday concert Sir Elton played to a 20,000-strong crowd at New York’s Madison Square Garden was streamed live over the internet.

So let me get this straight Elton, you’re whining because you can’t stop the Internet’s ability to spread messages like wildfire, which means you can’t control the profit you make off your music. But when you can make money with your music, using the Internet than it’s ok… right?

BAH!

One of the Best Media Players for Linux

Now for my geeky post…

If you use Linux and want a great media player I suggest Amarok! It is a great program and can hook up to an iPod or other MP3 players with ease. A great alternative to using Windows/iTunes for music.
