What was that About Measure Twice…

My Fiance and I are making a table to go behind our bed. We don’t have a headboard for our bed, and this wasn’t a problem when the bed was against a wall in the corner, where one wall covers the back of the bed, and the other wall covers one of the long sides of the bed.
Well we did some rearranging a few weeks ago and moved the bed so the back of it rests in a corner. Meaning there is no back to the bed. For how our room is set up this works nicely, but there is a lot of room for stuff to fall behind the back of the bed now. So to remedy this, my Fiance had the brilliant idea to build a table to put back there. This way we could have a table behind us to set things on (which we both very much like) and we could build the table up a bit to act as a headboard.
Well we did some measurements and found the best height from the ground would be 3 feet for the headboard. To make this thing sturdy, my plan was to build a corner table (essentially two Right Triangle boards separated with 3 legs) and then slap on the headboard. Well if the headboard is 3 feet in height than the legs needs to be 3 feet in height also, right? Wrong!
Answer below
The table is built with a bottom piece and a top piece of board (the two right triangle boards) so the headboard could be securely fastened to the table (without having to fasten it to wobbly legs). Well the top and bottom boards both have a height of a 1/2 inch. Which means the height of the table needs to be 3 feet and 1 inch. So I measured things correctly but forgot this one little detail.
Thing is I thought about this a few days before we started to put it together and I said, “Hmm, I should write this down and come up with a solution.” I was driving at the time and so when I got home I must’ve turned on the TV and forgot about the issue. Good Ol’ ADD huh? I have good visual spatial skills which is why I knew a problem existed, but I just didn’t account for my memory…
Sometimes learning has to be a pain in the ass! I will try to post a picture of the finished product.

Welcome to my blog! Topics tend to focus on Science and Technology, but I throw in personal stuff too. I hope you enjoy!

Too much backstory information.
Like Ricky and Lucy, we all imagined separate beds (and modestly shapeless, flannel pajamas).
