Whatever Happened to Elevator Music
So due to an issue at work I have had the joy and pleasure of dealing with Belkin Tech Support. You see Belkin makes KVM switches (Keyboard, Video, Mouse, Switch) and for a long time has been the leader in KVMs. So naturally we ordered a new one from them at work that seemed pretty sweet.
It arrived and it didn’t work at all. I verified this by hooking up a known working computer, but video was all scrambled. The problem wasn’t a faulty cable, a fried electrical component in the KVM, no it was because the hex bolts they sent with the switch were the wrong size. These hex bolts are already connected to the device when we receive it and are what the cables screw into to make sure you have a solid and secure cable connection. Here is a picture to help clarify…

The smaller one is what fixed the problem. The originally shipped these KVMs with the larger one. A blunder of all blunders.
The Techs I have had in my dealings were all nice and knowledgeable and wasted little time. I have no beef with them. What annoys the piss out of me is the music BS I have to listen to while on hold.
You see with Belkin it’s not enough to play some catchy music in the background, they have to tell you how great their products are
That’s right! I am calling in because they screwed up a very simple issue on their KVM switch, and now I have to listen to how great their products are for a half hour!?!?!?
Man, never again will I ask, while on hold with any tech support, “Do they have to play that crappy music while they put me on hold!” No, give me that any day. Unless you see something in Belkin that you cannot get in any other product, I don’t recommend them. Maybe in a few years they will have gotten to a point where they won’t make this same mistake. But they have been a market leader in KVM devices, so there is no excuse for them.
P.S. Post created while on hold
